Matt Damon

My name is Matt Damon. I grew up in the small town of Ola, Arkansas. I now live in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Music has always been a huge part of my life. However, I didn’t pick up a guitar until I was 25. I’ve always been a huge fan of older country music. I’m a huge Hank Jr. fan. I like my country with a Little Rock and a little blues. Some of my other great influences have been Waylon, George Jones, Rockey Jones, and Cody Johnson.  I got my start in the bar scene riding with Rockey Jones to his shows and helping him set his stuff up. I’d set and watch him play all night and try to learn everything I could. The first night I went, I knew that was what I was going to do.  I’ve spent most of my adult life burning up the road traveling the country doing pipeline work. When I started playing my own shows I would find dive bars within driving distance of where the job was at. Doing this seemed to really help spread my music out.  In my travels I’ve been very lucky to meet a lot of top caliber musicians that have taken me in and helped me a ton. In 2019 I met an old guitar picker by the name of Dennis Dunnigan in North Dakota. He helped me with my guitar playing as well as my vocals. In 2020 I met Dave Percefull down in Texas. He’s an amazing producer and has been like a father figure to me in helping guide and develop my career. He also introduced me to my vocal coach, Jay Lemon. Jay has really helped me more than than I could ever ask for. In 2021 I met blues legend George Sanders in Kansas. We became great friends and ended up playing music almost every night for a few months.  I’ve been tremendously blessed to have had so much help along the way. The path I’ve traveled hasn’t been an easy one. It’s been full of ups and downs along the way. I’ve wanted to quit more times than I can shake a fist at, but something always happened to get me back on stage. I finally decided to quit trying to quit and give country music all I have.  I would like to say a special thanks to:  Rockey Jones, Dennis Dunnigan, Dave Percefull, George Sanders, Aunt Amber, and the Travis Family  Without them I wouldn’t be where I’m at today in my music career or life.
